REPORT ON A LOCAL LIBRARY VISIT
TO DURGA DAS
SMARAKA MUNCIPAL LIBRARY OTTAPALAM
Readers
Club of Kendriya Vidyalaya Ottapalam, conducted a library visit to Durga Das Smaraka Municipal Library,
Ottapalam.Ten students were selected both from junior and senior section of the
Club and one teacher accompanied them.
They started from the school at 8:45 am and
reached the library by 9:15 am. The librarian gave a short talk about the
history, governing body, funds, resources and other facilities of the library. The
library was established in the 1990s and it was sponsored by the Ottapalam
Nagarasabha. It first started as a Reading Club.
There were approximately 8000 books, from
which 2000 were in English and 5800 in Malayalam. 12 newspapers both in English
and Malayalam and about 28 magazines are
subscribing. It was good to watch the literature, fiction, poetry, biographies
and auto- biographies arranged systematically in the shelves. These books were
classified subject wise. The library was partially digitalized and its
inauguration was held on November 3rd 2011.
The
students who were attended the visit are, Vandana Krishnan, Swathi Sreekumar,
Nikhil C.M, Shivank Sadasivan, Devaprabha, Harsha, Hima Mohan, Aparna.M, Rasteena
Ravi, Uma Maheswari and the teacher concerned was Smt.Sudheendra Rani.R.S
The
visit was very informative and encouraged students to know more about library
and its resources. Children really enjoyed the visit and referred many useful and rare books
from Malayalam Literature.
